2nd SYMPOSIUM ON FOREST BIOMASS AND PROCESSING RESIDUES
FOR ENERGY PRODUCTION

April 22-23, 2008
Château Cartier Hotel, Gatineau, Aylmer Sector

Biomass continues to be a timely topic considering the current state of Quebec’s forest sector. Several aspects of this energy system deserve a closer look. The symposium’s second edition will not only address the policies that need to be put in place to develop this energy system, but also take a look at heating system technologies and their cost-effectiveness for institutional buildings. Much of the symposium will be devoted to issues relating to forest biomass supply, i.e. technologies, harvesting methods, economic profitability, integration with harvesting and silvicultural operations.

Who should attend this symposium?

  • Forest products industry
  • Forest management industry
  • Economic development agencies
  • Regional development organizations
  • Government
  • Educational institutions
  • Municipal sector
  • Consultants
  • Equipment manufacturers
  • Environment sector related to forest development
  • Energy producers (conventional, new and co-generation)

General objective

  • To prompt discussion on the use of forest biomass and primary processing residues for energy production purposes, especially in terms of policies and supply.

Specific objectives

  • To make forest product stakeholders aware of development potential
  • To debate what action to take to develop a policy promoting the use of forest biomass for energy purposes
  • To present the various technologies available
  • To determine economic profitability conditions
